  • We are new to field hockey. What do we need to know before the start of the season?

  • What is the difference between outdoor and indoor field hockey?
    Outdoor hockey is played on artifical turf and indoor hockey on a gym floor. Outdoor sticks are thicker and heavier, the ball is heavier, and the net is bigger than the indoor versions. A full outdoor game has 11 players on the field for each team and indoor has 6. The games have almost the same rules with minor adjustments for game play. For instance, players can not hit the ball or raise it off the floor in indoor hockey. Indoor hockey is also faster paced with quicker skills.
  • How do I register?
    Regisration for all programs is done through our Membership Portal via "PowerUp Sports". If you are new to the club, you will need to create a profile. If you are registering a child, create a profile for yourself, followed by one for them.
  • What is the required equipment for players?
    Every player must wear shin guards, a mouth guard and running shoes. Sticks can be purchased through AK Pro and Revamp Sports - there are different sticks for Indoor and Outdoor play.
  • What payment methods do you accept?
    Payment can be made online via Mastercard/VISA, or e-transfer to treasurer@haltonfieldhockey.com. If you prefer to pay with cash, please email treasurer@haltonfieldhockey.com for payment instructions.
  • Where can I buy club wear?

  • What age group should my child register for?
    For the 2024/25 Indoor House League season: U10 - Players born in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 U14 - Players born in 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 U16/U18 - Players born in 2010, 2009, 2008 Senior Recreation - Players over 18 years of age.
  • Can we try before committing to the full season?
    Yes. Please reach out to a program director to arrange a time to try out a session. U10/U14 House League - youth@haltonfieldhockey.com U16/U18 House League - youth@haltonfieldhockey.com
  • When do different season start?
    Spring Outdoor season starts at the end of April and runs through June. Summer Outdoor runs July/August. Fall Outdoor (if applicable for your age group) starts mid-September through October. Fall/Winter Indoor starts at the end of October and runs through the following March.
  • Where do teams play?
    Our House League teams play at facilities within Oakville and Burlington.
  • I requested 3 friends, why aren't we all on the same team?
    Friend requests are to be for one person only and must be reciprocated.
  • What if I don't have a stick?
    We have a minimal amount that you can borrow per game but we recommend you purchase one for the season. You can do this at places like AKPro in Mississauga or online retailers.
  • My child played in high school this year, what level should she be playing?
    We recommend that she starts in our house league program to develop core skills. It is also a smaller time commitment. If you are wishing to try out for rep, please check our social media for tryout dates
  • Do you have info about coaching? Is there training offered for new coaches?
    Yes! We offer coaching clinics at different times throughout the year. If you would like to be notified when these are scheduled, please email info@haltonfieldhockey.com. We will provide all coaches with practices plans and ideas for engaging new players. New coaches will be reimbursed for mandatory online training and for their Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • What are the rules of field hockey?

  • I am new to coaching. Do you offer training for new coaches?
    Yes! There are lots of opportunities for coach development through NCCP and Field Hockey Canada, and the Club invests in developing our coaches to ensure the athletes are getting the best training possible.   • I am trying to creating a new account, but I get a message saying my email address is already in use. What should I do?
    Our Member Zone is designed to provide members with a single profile to be used for all registrations and most volunteer activities. If you are getting this message, it means that a profile has already been created in the system with your email address. Perhaps a spouse or other family member used your email address to set up an account? Use the Password Reminder to have a new password sent to you. If this does not resolve your access, contact info@haltonfieldhockey.com to assist.
  • I don’t have access to the email account I used to set up my account.
    1. If you no longer have access to the email account you used to set up your Member Profile, you can still access the system. Make sure to change your email address at the earliest opportunity to ensure you receive confirmations, receipts and club communications. 2. If you no longer have access to the email account you used to set up your member profile, and cannot remember your password, contact info@haltonfieldhockey.com to reset your Member Profile information.
  • I can’t remember my password
    You can use the password reminder system within the Member Zone. On the right of the Member Zone home page, enter your email address under the Forgot your password? section. The Member Zone will automatically send you an email with a link to reset your password. Note: You must already have a profile in the Member Zone to use this feature.
  • How can I view my child's roster and schedule?
    Rosters and schedules are made available to members by club administrators, and may not be available at all times, nor for all programs. If the information is not published for your player, please contact your program director. 1. Log into your Member Zone account. 2. Under the Your Players box on the right of the screen, find the player you are looking for. 3. Click the Schedule link to get roster and schedule information for your child or player.
  • How can I ensure I am receiving club email?
    If you are having trouble receiving club email, please: 1. Ensure that you have not unsubscribed to club emails. - Log into the Member Zone and review your profile. - Log in, and go to Profile > Edit my Profile - Review the Can we Email You section in the centre-right of the page. 2. Check your SPAM or JUNK folders - If the mail is in there, take appropriate action to make sure they are not flagged as SPAM 3. Ensure your email address is correct in the Member Zone. 4. If you have limited storage space in your account, always ensure there is adequate space for receiving new emails. 5. In online accounts like Gmail, check the Social or Promotions tabs and take appropriate action to ensure visibility. 6. Whitelist the club email address, as well as postmaster@powerupsports.com Whitelisting is a process to flag an email domain to tell your email system that it is ‘good’ email. You may be able to do this yourself, though in some work settings, you may have to put in a request to your IT department.
  • I am a team official (coach, asst coach or manager) or a referee. How can I access PowerUp on my mobile phone?
    Team officials and Game Officials can use the PowerUp Connect iOS and Android apps to access their respective tools. For coaches/team officials, this includes viewing their team roster(s), messaging their team through the mass emailer, seeing team members’ attendance for events/games, creating custom team events, and much more. For referees, accept and reviews assignments, set availability, post game results and more.
  • What is PowerUp?
    The PowerUp Member Zone is our online registration and season management tool. You will create a profile and register for programs and events through that portal.
